Hull City man makes key demand of his teammates after Fulham no-show

The newly-promoted Tigers produced their worst display of the campaign so far

Sander Berge battles Semi Ajayi at Craven Cottage

A downbeat Semi Ajayi accepted that Hull City's display against Fulham was nowhere near the standards he and his teammates have set, and has demanded a response.

City produced what Sergej Jakirovic described as the worst performance since he's been head coach of the MKM Stadium club, to lose at Craven Cottage.

While it may have only finished 1-0 to the hosts, Fulham dominated from start to finish, and a hapless City failed to lay a glove on a side who had not tasted Premier League victory so far this season, and were bottom of the league.

To any unwitting onlookers, City would have looked the team at the bottom of the league, and without a victory with their manager under pressure, such was the gulf in quality between both sides on a day where Fulham's lack of clinical edge could have proved their undoing.

The Tigers now have a clear week to prepare for Sunday's visit of Brentford to the MKM Stadium, and Ajayi wants a reaction.

"It's not good enough, and we need to be better," a visibly frustrated Ajayi told Hull Live as he reflected on a dispiriting performance. From the first to the last, I don't think we were at the races. They were better than us, and I think they deserved to win. I don't think we had a shot on target."

Jakirovic made his feelings known at the interval, and while there was an improvement in the second period, their performance still fell a long way short of where it needed to be at Premier League level. Ajayi gave an insight into what the Croatian said at the break, before opting to make a change with Lucas Herrington replaced by Tim Iroegbunam, which saw his side move to a back four.

"The gaffer just told us we have to be way, way better," Ajayi said of Jakirovic's half-time pep talk.

"He (Jakirovic) said it's one of our worst halves of football that he's seen since he's been in charge, and I totally agree with that. We weren't able to raise it in the second half, which is disappointing. Listen, we need to be better for the rest of the season, and that starts with putting in the work on the training pitch this coming week."
