The Chargers could get star tackle Joe Alt back sooner rather than later.
During Wednesday’s practice, Alt was spotted participating in drills with other offensive linemen.
Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh said on Monday that Alt had a “very good chance” of practicing this week. Alt missed his second consecutive game this past Sunday against the Chiefs with his neck injury.
Alt being out on the practice field is a good sign for his Week 8 status against the Rams. The 23-year-old suffered his injury in Week 4 against the Seattle Seahawks.
NFL insider Ian Rapoport noted earlier this week that Alt is expected to ramp up after visiting with a specialist.
The Chargers offensive line has been hampered by injuries including Rashawn Slater (ankle/IR), Kayode Awosika (fibula), Trey Pipkins III (knee), Trevor Penning (concussion) and center Tyler Biadasz (season-ending ACL injury).
It’s been one thing after another for the Chargers, as Harbaugh has been forced to rely heavily on young and backup linemen.
Not only is Alt trending in the right direction, but so is Awosika.
Awosika has missed the last four games with a fibula and foot injury.
The Chargers appear to be getting healthier as they enter the bye week, but they hope it's not too late to turn their season around.
