Kentucky Basketball’s latest social media flex has stirred up the college basketball world online. On Thursday night, the Wildcats’ official account posted a tweet that noted Kentucky as the only SEC team to go 3-0 in exhibition play with two wins over P4 teams that were in the NCAA tournament last season.

In just over 12 hours, the post has nearly a quarter of a million views online. It also has over 230 comments and more than 200 retweets/quote tweets.

Many of the responses appear to be from non-UK fans, but there are a lot of sour reactions in the comment section. Several users have pointed out the “cringe” flex from the blueblood program.

“I thought Kentucky was a blueblood with decades of tradition and didn’t have to post cringe s*** like this,” one user said. “My mistake lmaooo.”

The responses continue:

“I’m old enough to remember when Kentucky measured their success by Final Fours and National Championships.”

“Kentucky brags about exhibition games now?”

“Hang the banner!”

Still, though, there are Kentucky fans who were happy to defend the post.

“This will bring some ‘hate’ from a portion of BBN and will give rivals some ammo to poke fun at the ‘Cats, but honestly I’m to the point where I love it,” KSR’s Brandon Ramsey posted online. “If you are the type of ‘fan’ who is annoyed by this type of post then I hope you stay mad, annoyed, and miserable all season.”

Others acknowledged the “rage bait” ahead of the college basketball season.

“I love the rage bait [Kentucky],” one user said. “Keep doing this, it’s hilarious to see anonymous non-UK fan accounts be so upset about it.”

Kentucky, entering its third year under head coach Mark Pope, went 3-0 in its preseason slate. All three games were played in Rupp Arena. The Wildcats beat Little Rock 69-49, Texas Tech 76-65, and Central Florida 90-76 in overtime.

Kentucky is ranked at No. 23 in the preseason AP Top 25 poll. The Wildcats were a 7-seed in last year’s NCAA Tournament and fell to 2-seed Iowa State in the second round of the tournament. Tennessee, the 6-seed in the same region, beat Iowa State in the Sweet 16 the following weekend to advance to the Elite Eight.

Tennessee and Kentucky will play against each other twice next season. The first matchup will take place in Lexington’s Rupp Arena on Saturday, Jan. 23, while the second will happen in Knoxville’s Food City Center on Saturday, Feb. 13. The teams could also meet up in the SEC Tournament or the NCAA Tournament.

No. 8 Tennessee will tip off its regular-season slate on Nov. 3 against Wofford in the Food City Center. Stay tuned to Rocky Top Insider for more Tennessee Basketball news, notes, and coverage.
