“Cancel the Season”: NBA Fans Lose Patience as Tyrese Haliburton’s Injury Adds to Growing Frustration Across the League

Tyrese Haliburton can’t catch a break. The Indiana Pacers guard missed the entire 2025-26 season with a torn right Achilles tendon. Now, just four games into his return, he has suffered another setback with a hamstring injury. The big question is how serious it is.

On Wednesday, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that Haliburton has sustained a left hamstring strain and could miss some time after injuring the same hamstring three times previously.

With Haliburton sidelined for the foreseeable future, concerns are growing about the severity of his injury. Fans have reacted with frustration, especially as the NBA’s new season has barely begun and the injury bug continues to affect teams across the league.

Haliburton is not the only star facing a major setback early in the campaign, as Anthony Edwards, Jalen Williams, Paolo Banchero, Kawhi Leonard and Jaren Jackson Jr. have also dealt with significant injury concerns, adding to the frustration surrounding the league’s opening weeks.

“Cancel the season,” one fan said on X.

The All-Star guard played 66 minutes across the first back-to-back of his season. After Monday’s game in Milwaukee, he acknowledged feeling worn down, saying, “I’m a little beat up, but I’ll be fine.” When asked what was bothering him, the Pacers guard replied, “Overall body.”

His absence is a significant blow to Indiana, as he remains a key part of the team’s lineup. There is no timetable for his return yet, with further updates expected as the Pacers learn more about his condition.

Indiana was hoping to get healthier, but the team is dealing with multiple injury concerns. T.J. McConnell is managing a right hamstring strain, while Andrew Nembhard is questionable for Wednesday’s game against the Philadelphia 76ers with neck soreness. Ivica Zubac is out with a left ankle sprain, Ben Sheppard has a torn left meniscus, and Johnny Furphy recently underwent right ACL surgery.

Tyrese Haliburton was having an All-Star-caliber season

Through the Pacers’ first four games, Haliburton elevated his game and showed what he was truly capable of. His performance was a big reason Indiana got off to a 2-2 start, with the guard averaging 21.8 points, 9.5 assists and 4.5 rebounds per game. He shot an impressive 52% from the field while averaging 33 minutes per game.

He looked like his old self, consistently putting himself in the right positions to make the most of his offensive opportunities. His production was notably better than in recent seasons, putting him on pace for some of the best numbers of his career. However, his injury has now brought that momentum to a halt.

The timing couldn’t have been worse. Whether Haliburton can return to that level remains to be seen, but the fact that he could miss weeks with a hamstring injury he has dealt with multiple times before is certainly not encouraging.
