Dutch-Ghanaian forward Gabriel Misehouy was on target as NAC Breda defeated JOS Watergraafsmeer 3-1 to secure qualification for the second round of the KNVB Cup.
The 21-year-old attacker opened the scoring in the 29th minute of Wednesday’s encounter, capitalising on a mistake by the JOS Watergraafsmeer goalkeeper before calmly slotting the ball into the net.
NAC started brightly, with captain Mohamed Nassoh striking the woodwork early in the contest. However, the hosts remained competitive and threatened on several occasions before eventually finding an equaliser through Luca Polm shortly before half-time.
Paul Gladon restored NAC’s advantage just before the interval, finishing from close range after a delivery from Nassoh to give the visitors a 2-1 lead.
JOS continued to battle after the break, but NAC gradually gained control following a series of substitutions by head coach Rick Kruys.
Pepijn Reulen sealed the victory in the 84th minute, converting after Boyd Lucassen worked the ball into a dangerous position and delivered an inviting pass.
The victory ensured NAC progressed to the next round of the competition, ending their recent struggles in the opening round of the Dutch cup.
Misehouy, who joined NAC on loan from Girona FC in August, will hope to build on his decisive contribution as the Breda-based club continues its campaign.
