Lyon interim manager Jorge Maciel is uncertain whether Ghana international Ernest Nuamah will recover in time for the upcoming French Ligue 1 showdown against Brest following an injury setback.
The 23-year-old Black Stars attacker missed Lyon’s UEFA Europa League clash against Real Sociedad on Thursday night after suffering a muscle strain.
Despite his absence, Lyon managed to secure a valuable 1-1 draw against the Spanish side in a fiercely contested encounter held at the Estadio Municipal de Anoeta.
“They’ve suffered muscle strains,” the club’s interim manager revealed while providing an update on Nuamah and teammate Moussa Niakhaté.
“We hope to have them back for Sunday’s match in Brest. We’re waiting for an update; we don’t yet know if they’ll be fit or not. We’ll see how things are progressing when we return to Lyon,” he added.
Nuamah has been an influential figure for Lyon since the start of the 2026/27 campaign, establishing himself as one of the club's attacking threats with his pace, direct running and eye for goal.
The former FC Nordsjælland winger has made 13 appearances across all competitions, scoring six goals and providing one assist, underlining his growing importance to the French outfit.
His potential absence against Brest would be a setback for Lyon as they seek to maintain their momentum in Ligue 1, while the injury also raises concerns for Ghana ahead of the November international break.
The Black Stars are preparing for a crucial double-header against Somalia as they look to revive their qualification hopes, with Nuamah's fitness now a major concern for the national team ahead of the upcoming assignments.
