Leeds United fans making the journey to Sunderland’s Stadium of Light for Sunday’s Premier League fixture between the two could face travel disruption due to Storm Boelo.
Large parts of the northern UK have been severely impacted by the storm, and the adverse weather has seen football matches played on council-owned grass pitches across the country postponed.
While there is no suggestion that Leeds’ Premier League match away at Sunderland will be postponed, there is an amber weather warning in place for Sunday’s fixture.
There is an amber weather warning in place and people have been told to prepare for travel disruption. Jason Kelly, the Met Office Chief Forecaster, said: “People should prepare for the potential for disruption, particularly to travel and power supplies. Secure loose items outside, plan ahead if you are travelling and keep up to date with the latest forecast and warnings for your area.”

Sunday’s Met Office weather forecast in Sunderland suggests there is a 30% chance of rain from 4pm GMT onwards, with Sunday’s game kicking off at 4.30pm GMT.
Winds could reach as high 26mph around the time of kick-off. Train service LNER will be operating on a reduced service through Doncaster on Sunday, with passengers told to check their journeys before travelling. The very worst of the strong wind is expected to stop on Sunday evening, with Met Office North East claiming: “the wind gradually eases to a light breeze.”
The game is currently expected to go ahead and Leeds will no doubt be looking for three points following last weekend’s draw with rivals Manchester United. Heading into the game, Sunderland sit bottom of the Premier League table, while Daniel Farke’s side are eighth following a promising start to the campaign.
