Ghana’s interim technical team is expected to announce its squad later this week for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Somalia.

The Black Stars will face Somalia in a double-header on Matchdays Three and Four as they seek to revive a qualification campaign that has started badly.

Ghana lost their opening two matches, going down 2-0 to Ivory Coast in Bouaké before suffering a 4-2 defeat to The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The results led to the resignation of head coach Carlos Queiroz, prompting the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation to begin the search for a substantive manager.

A five-member committee chaired by former GFA vice-president Fred Pappoe was set up to oversee the recruitment process. However, the committee settled on an interim technical team to take charge of the upcoming qualifiers.

Kim Lars Björkegren will lead the team, assisted by Ibrahim Tanko and Godwin Attram. Former Black Stars goalkeeper Fatawu Dauda has been appointed goalkeepers’ trainer.

The squad announcement comes as preparations gather pace for the crucial encounters, both of which will be played in Ghana. The first meeting is scheduled for Thursday, November 12, with the return fixture on Monday, November 16.

Ghana currently sit bottom of Group C without a point and face mounting pressure to get their campaign back on track.

The Black Stars are also desperate to return to the continental showpiece after missing the 2025 AFCON in Morocco following a disappointing qualifying campaign.
