Lionesses condemn BB Women to 2nd defeat
EYES ON THE BALL—Lionesses and Bullets players fight for possession

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women were left ruing missed chances after MDF Lionesses handed them their second loss of the season in an NBM Women’s Premiership match at Nankhaka Stadium in Lilongwe Sunday.

Lionesses edged Bullets Women 1-0 courtesy of Malawi National Women’s Football Team striker and sprinter Asimenye Simwaka.

But despite the win, Lionesses remain stuck on fifth position with 10 points from six fixtures.

Bullets Women coach Maggie Chombo said they paid the price after squandering several chances.

“We started very well and created several chances that we messed up. So that is what happens when you cannot convert your chances.

Our opponents got just one chance and made good use of it to finish the game with full points. But sometimes you also need luck to be on your side.

“It was a good game and I thank my players for playing their lungs out. It’s just unfortunate that we finished on the losing side.

We lost clear chances but we accept the result and we will live to fight another day,” Chombo said.

Her Lionesses counterpart John Kaputa thanked his players for sticking to their game plan.

“The players kept the instructions we gave them.

Our plan was to score first and they did it. We planned to attack when in possession and defend when not in possession.

We also planned to score two goals, but this did not work out despite making changes here and there. “But we have taken off on our way up the table.

We are done with Blantyre teams now. What remains is for us to find ways of dealing with our fellow Lilongwe teams. Our target is to lift the championship.

I thank my players and technical panel for a job well done,” Kaputa said.

The result saw Bullets Women dropping to fourth position with 12 points from six matches, at par with Ascent Soccer Academy who displaced them because of a better goal difference.

In another match played Sunday, Ascent shared the spoils with Civil Service United Women in a barren draw at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe.

The result was enough for Civil to maintain second position with 13 points from six matches and cut Silver Strikers Ladies’ lead to two points.
