2026/27 Ghana Premier League Match Report: Martin Karikari’s goal hands Hearts of Oak slim win over Holy Stars to clinch top-spot

Hearts of Oak have climbed to the top of the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League table after securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Basake Holy Stars in match-week 8 opener at the University of Ghana Stadium.

It was an entertaining fixture of two halves, with both teams putting up strong performances in a closely fought encounter. The game remained balanced as the two sides battled for control and searched for the breakthrough.

With the match heading towards its closing stages, Martin Karikari delivered the decisive moment in the 82nd minute, scoring a superb goal to hand Hearts the lead.

The former Asekem FC star weaved his way through and struck into the net to separate the teams, as Hearts held on to secure all three points and extend their winning streak in the league.

The victory takes Hearts of Oak to the top of the standings with 17 points and will now turn their attention to what will be a tough away fixture against Debibi United next week.

For Basake Holy Stars, the defeat marks their fourth loss of the season despite a spirited display and will look to respond in their next match against Dreams FC.
