Gema Climent Banned Six Matches for Assaulting Carla Andrés

Valencia midfielder Gema Climent has been suspended for six matches after the Spanish women’s professional football disciplinary committee ruled she assaulted Eibar player Carla Andrés during a Liga F match, Mundo Deportivo reported. The incident occurred in the 62nd minute, when the referee sent Climent off for kicking an opponent and striking her with a punch while the ball was in play but not being contested between the two players.

The disciplinary committee imposed the sanction at its medium grade under Article 103.1 of the disciplinary code, which covers assaulting another player without causing injury and carries a penalty range of four to twelve matches. The committee also applied ancillary fines under Article 52 of the code, the report said.

What the Referee Recorded

According to the match official’s report, as cited by Mundo Deportivo, Climent was shown a red card for “kicking an opponent and punching her while the ball was in play but not in dispute between the two players.” Andrés did not require medical assistance and was able to continue playing, the report noted.

The committee weighed the deliberate nature of the act as the determining factor, noting that the offense occurred at a distance from where play was developing such that intervention in the challenge was impossible — a circumstance that places the offense within the four-to-twelve-match band of Article 103.

Why the Six-Match Penalty

Article 103, which governs assaults between players, sets a suspension range of four to twelve matches for aggression that causes no injury. By landing at the medium grade, the committee set Climent’s ban at six matches — two above the minimum and six below the maximum — with accompanying fines, Mundo Deportivo reported.

The ruling was announced Wednesday as part of the disciplinary committee’s sanctions review for the ninth matchday of the Liga F season, Spain’s top tier of women’s football.

Impact on Valencia

The six-match suspension removes Climent from Valencia’s lineup. The suspension takes effect immediately under the committee’s ruling, and the additional fines add a financial penalty on top of the sporting sanction.

Neither Valencia nor Climent issued a public response in the reports reviewed, and no appeal has been confirmed.

The Broader Context of Player Conduct in Liga F

The disciplinary code’s Article 103 explicitly treats off-the-ball or distant-from-play aggression as a defining element of the offense, which is why the referee’s description of the incident — a kick and a punch away from the ball — placed it squarely in the four-to-twelve-match range rather than a lesser category.

For Eibar, the incident came without lasting physical consequence to Andrés, who finished the match, but it forced the Basque club to play the remainder of the contest a player down after Climent’s dismissal.
