Former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke has offered an intriguing assessment of the Black Stars squad following the teams’ sloppy start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The Black Stars made a disappointing start to the qualifiers, succumbing to a 2-0 away defeat to Ivory Coast before falling short to The Gambia 4-2 at the Accra Sports Stadium.

After two matches in Group C, the West Africa football giants find themselves bottom without a single point.

However, Yorke, who recently expressed interest in coaching Ghana has offered his assessment of the Black Stars squad.

“You look at the squad and your eyes open even wider,” the former England star told The Guardian.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Football Association has named Black Queens coach, Kim Björkegren as the interim manager for the November international break matches against Somalia.

He will be assisted by Medeama coach Ibrahim Tanko and former Ghana international Godwin Attram.

For Yorke, rebuilding the Black Stars requires more than changes on the touchline, with a stronger team culture and a shared vision among the key stakeholders needed to help the team rediscover their form.
