Jose Mourinho is finally realising the truth about Bernardo Silva

Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho believes that his team's build-up, when Bernardo Silva is on the pitch, is much better than when he is not playing.

Real Madrid beat Leipzig 4-1 at the Bernabeu on Wednesday night, and Silva's performance was really good. It was really good to watch Silva finally return to the Real Madrid starting eleven after so many games out of it for no apparent reason. Silva was constantly moving to provide support to this Real Madrid team and was able to help them greatly with the build-up.

As the team looked more fluid than they have in quite a long time, Jose Mourinho understood that and was able to give credit to the midfielder in the press conference after the match. He said, "Our build-up is much better when Bernardo Silva is on the pitch. He helps us build from the back, and our transitions become much more versatile and quick."

Bernardo Silva helps this Real Madrid team greatly

He is absolutely bang on, and it is finally time that he realises the mistake he has made with Silva in these last few weeks. Silva is a midfielder who could help Real Madrid much more than Mourinho thinks in terms of build-up and ball progression. It just does not seem believable to the author that Mourinho's mind, as great as it is, wasn't able to figure that out until now. Maybe he had figured it out, but he had other reasons to not play Bernardo Silva, but it simply does not make sense.

It has been apparent in every single game Silva has played that Real Madrid's build-up is much, much better with him on the pitch than off. Does this mean that Bernardo Silva is going to be playing many more games, if not all, for Real Madrid in the future? Hopefully, but it does not seem likely that it will happen because the manager simply does not rate his countryman as highly as some of the other midfielders at Real Madrid.

Silva should be playing in the midfield as much as possible because that is how Real Madrid would have any chance of controlling the game and having more possession than their opponents. It is clear that Mourinho will never do that consistently, which is a bit sad.

It is a good thing that Arda Guler is playing the way he is playing because, with him on the pitch, at least some of Real Madrid's issues in midfield are masked. Even though Silva's ball retention will still be missed because of his agility and the balance he provides to the team, something is better than nothing. If Guler is the one that Mourinho chooses to play in the midfield, that is much better than the other alternative.
