The RFEF has spread the 24 Copa del Rey first-round ties postponed after the Urda rail crash across 29 October to 13 November. Valencia, Betis and Celta will now play their ties during the November international break.
A national tragedy has stopped Spanish football. The Royal Spanish Football Federation called off every Copa del Rey first-round tie scheduled for the evening of 28 October. All other matches in competitions it organises were postponed too. The decision was taken out of respect for the victims of the rail crash in Toledo province.
A Renfe high-speed train and an Iryo high-speed train collided near Urda station. The crash killed 68 people and injured 80, Público reported. An investigating judge at the court in Orgaz has ordered the first inquiries into what caused the collision.
The shutdown reached beyond the cup. The federation also postponed the nine first-round matches of the futsal Copa de España. The futsal draw planned for 16:00 on 29 October was cancelled.
Valencia, Betis, Alavés, Celta and Levante were the top-flight clubs due in cup action that evening. Each of them must now squeeze a rearranged tie into its schedule. That extra game has to fit into an already crowded run of league and European fixtures. The timing differs sharply from club to club.
Alavés go first. Regional side Anaitasuna host them at 19:00 on Tuesday 3 November. Levante travel to CD Tarancón two days later, on Thursday 5 November.
Three clubs face a longer wait. Celta close the round away to Salamanca, with kick-off at 21:00 on Friday 13 November. Valencia and Betis are in action earlier that same week. A tie that was meant to be settled in October will now be played while national teams are away.
Mallorca’s tie at CD Alcoyano kicks off at 21:00 on the same Thursday evening, after Levante’s game at Tarancón. COPE’s list of the rearranged ties records Mallorca as a Segunda División side, not a top-flight one.

That league context matters. Three days after the cup tie, Mallorca play a second-tier match away to Andorra. They are still aiming for automatic promotion. A rearranged cup trip now sits directly before a league fixture in that push.
The national first round had been pencilled in for a single evening, 28 October, when the season’s fixtures were drawn up. The 2026/27 calendar originally set the Copa del Rey second round for 2 December.
