Karim Zito happy with AshantiGold draw against Kotoko despite missed chances
Karim Zito

FC AshantiGold 04 head coach Karim Zito says he is satisfied with his side’s 1-1 draw against Asante Kotoko, despite believing his team created enough opportunities to win their Ghana Premier League encounter.

AshantiGold hosted Kotoko at the Len Clay Stadium on Sunday in an Ashanti derby as both sides battled for points in their Matchday 8 fixture.

Samuel Boateng Fosu opened the scoring for the hosts in the 40th minute, but Patrick Aseidu rescued a point for Kotoko with a powerful free-kick in the second half.

Speaking after the match, Zito praised Kotoko’s goalkeeper for his impressive performance, acknowledging that his saves played a crucial role in keeping the visitors in the contest.

“We had a lot of opportunities, but their goalkeeper was at his best,” Zito said.

The former Ghana youth coach added that AshantiGold had enjoyed the better of the first half, while the second period was more evenly balanced, with both teams creating chances.

“In the first half we took it, and in the second half we shared it. We created opportunities, and they also had their opportunities,” he added.

Zito believes the final score was a fair reflection of the contest, given the chances created by both sides throughout the encounter.

“At the end of the day, the 1-1 signifies what happened,” he said.

Despite his side’s inability to convert more of their chances, the AshantiGold coach expressed satisfaction with the result, particularly as they avoided defeat against one of Ghana’s most established clubs.

“At the end of the day, I’m very happy we didn’t lose,” Zito said.

The draw leaves AshantiGold 04 11th in the Ghana Premier League standings with 11 points, while Asante Kotoko occupy eighth place with 12 points.

AshantiGold will look to return to winning ways when they travel to face Swedru All Blacks in their next league fixture.

Kotoko, meanwhile, will host Medeama SC at the Baba Yara Stadium as both teams prepare for their Matchday 9 encounters.
