Ghana Women’s Premier League champions, Ampem Darkoa Ladies, will play in the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League after beating Edo Queens in the replay of their WAFU B qualifier final.
The two teams faced each other to play the extra time of the final after the Confederation of African Football nullified results from the penalty shootouts after they met in Burkina Faso last month.
The earlier meeting went straight into penalties after the game had ended 2-2 in 90 minutes, with the Nigerian side winning in the shootouts.
However, the Ghanaian side appealed the decision, which was upheld by CAF, ordering a replay of the final with extra time being the focus.
During Thursday’s meeting, Ampem Darkoa scored just two minutes into the start of the game from a corner to take the lead and make it 3-2.
The Ghanaian side came under constant pressure after going ahead in the game, but Charles Anokye Frimpong’s side held on to their lead to see out the challenge from the Nigerians, eventually sealing the win.
The victory sees Ampem Darkoa qualify for the 2026 edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League, which will also be their second appearance in the competition.
The Ghanaian champions will face Morocco’s AS FAR, Kawempe Muslim Ladies of Uganda and USFAS Bamako of Mali in the tournament which kicks off on November 1 in Egypt.
