Medeama determined to secure positive result against Asante Kotoko – Ibrahim Tanko

Medeama SC head coach Ibrahim Tanko has declared that his team will fight for a positive result when they travel to Kumasi to face Asante Kotoko in their Ghana Premier League Matchweek 9 encounter on Sunday, November 1.

The highly anticipated fixture will take place at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, with the league leaders hoping to maintain their impressive start to the season and consolidate their position at the summit of the standings.

Medeama head into the encounter with 17 points from their opening matches, having won five of their last six games. Their confidence has also been boosted by a narrow 1-0 victory over Aduana FC in their previous league outing.

Despite acknowledging the difficulty of playing against Kotoko in Kumasi, Tanko insists his team will remain committed to their playing philosophy and approach the contest with the determination to secure a favourable result.

Speaking ahead of the encounter, the Medeama manager described the fixture as an exciting challenge and reflected on his team’s previous experiences against the Porcupine Warriors.

“I think it’s always very good and exciting to play against them, especially in Kumasi. And yeah, like I said, last year was good for us, and we won a point there and then beat them 4-0 at home.”

Tanko believes Kotoko will be particularly motivated to avenge their previous heavy defeat against Medeama and expects the hosts to prepare thoroughly for Sunday’s showdown.

“So definitely, it’s at the back of their minds. So they are preparing very well to meet us. And, like I always say, we don’t change our style of play, whether at home or away. So definitely, we are going there to fight for something,” he said.

Medeama will draw additional confidence from their most recent meeting with Kotoko, having handed the Kumasi giants a convincing 4-0 defeat in April 2026.

The Mauve and Yellow will therefore be hoping to reproduce that impressive performance, although playing in front of Kotoko’s home supporters presents a different challenge.

Meanwhile, Asante Kotoko will be determined to bounce back from their recent setback after being held to a 1-1 draw by AshantiGold.

The Porcupine Warriors currently occupy eighth position with 12 points and will view Sunday’s encounter as an important opportunity to close the five-point gap separating them from the league leaders.

With Medeama seeking to protect their position at the top and Kotoko desperate to make a statement on home soil, Sunday’s clash promises to be a compelling contest.

Kick-off is scheduled for 15:00 GMT at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
