Lamine Yamal scored his 13th goal for club and country this season on Saturday when he produced a moment of magic to put Barcelona ahead against Real Betis, which the Liga champions won 5-2 to extend their lead at the top of the table.
Days after his spellbinding assist to set up Anthony Gordon in Barca’s 4-1 victory over Galatasaray in the UEFA Champions League, he curled a magnificent long-range strike into the top corner.
Yamal is 10 days away from potentially becoming the youngest men’s player to win the Ballon d’Or, where he is expected to rival Harry Kane for the prestigious award.
After watching another breathtaking Yamal moment, Barca manager Hansi Flick insisted that the teenager is currently the world’s best.
“When you see the first goal he scored, it’s incredible; right now he is the best player in the world,” he said.
“I am very happy with his performance, and that is what I want to say. Of course, he has pressure; he is 19 years old and has played every game, but he is 100% focused and committed, and he is very good. His performance has been incredible, and his attitude is how great players are.
“With this result, we had to change him; it was clear, and I told him that I was very proud because he had played a fantastic game.”
Barca won their 11th straight game to maintain their 100% start to the season across all competitions, with Rodri, Gabriel Jesus, Eric Garcia and Dani Olmo also on the scoresheet.
Garcia, however, was one of a handful of players with fitness doubts ahead of Barca’s blockbuster Champions League tie against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday.
Flick gave an update on goalscorer Garcia, Gerard Martin and Jules Kounde.
“For the moment, the most important thing is to recover,” he explained. “Recovery is very important, and seeing how we manage the minutes on Tuesday.
“We’ll see, we’ll look for 11 players. We don’t know what will happen with Eric. Kounde has small problems, Gerard too. We’ll have to see.
“We have two more days, and we’ll see what happens on Tuesday. We have to wait for the medical results.”
PSG and Barca are the top two in the Champions League table after the opening two games, ahead of the mouthwatering clash at Parc des Princes.
The defending European champions have scored 10 goals after brushing aside Slovan Bratislava and Manchester City, while Barca have netted nine in wins over Feyenoord and Galatasaray.
