FIFA approves two world-class astro turf pitches for Ghana’s technical centre

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has secured a major boost to its infrastructure development plans after FIFA agreed to construct two new world-class artificial turf pitches at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.

The commitment was reached during a high-level meeting between GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku and the FIFA Development Committee in Rabat, Morocco. The agreement marks another important step in the Association’s efforts to develop the technical centre into a leading football development facility.

Under the arrangement, FIFA will supervise the construction of two artificial turf pitches built to meet the global governing body’s standards. One of the facilities will feature a modern floodlighting system to allow training sessions and matches to take place at night, while the second pitch will be constructed without floodlights.

The latest approval adds to the ongoing infrastructure works at the Ghanaman Centre, where development activities are progressing. Once the two new pitches are completed, the facility will have four artificial turf pitches, alongside two additional natural grass pitches that are also nearing completion.

FIFA to oversee entire project

As part of the agreement reached by President Simeon-Okraku, FIFA will take full responsibility for managing the project from start to finish.

The world football governing body will handle every stage, including the initial design, tendering, construction and eventual handover of the completed facilities to the Ghana Football Association.

FIFA’s direct involvement is expected to ensure that the pitches meet the required standards, with particular attention given to quality, technical specifications and long-term sustainability.

The two new facilities represent a significant investment in the development of young footballers and the wider future of Ghanaian football. They are also expected to strengthen the country’s football infrastructure and create improved opportunities for player development.

The floodlit pitch will provide additional flexibility for the centre, allowing activities to continue beyond regular daytime hours and creating more opportunities for evening training sessions and matches.
