Rodrigo Zalazar returned to full training without limitations on Monday, providing a timely boost for Sporting CP as the squad completed preparations for Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League league phase fixture against Shakhtar Donetsk in London, A Bola reported.

Rodrigo Zalazar Returns to Training Ahead of London Trip

Zalazar’s availability arrives after the Uruguayan playmaker missed Sporting’s previous matches against Lens, LASK Linz, Académico de Viseu, Marítimo, and Casa Pia. The midfielder worked without restriction during the media-open session at Alcochete, positioning himself to feature in Tuesday’s encounter at Stamford Bridge.

While Zalazar rejoined the group, central defender Zeno Debast was absent from Monday’s morning session and remains sidelined. Meanwhile, young prospects Eduardo Felicíssimo, Kauã Oliveira, and Salvador Blopa trained alongside the senior squad, pushing for selection in the matchday squad for the European fixture.

Coaching Shift and Travel Schedule for Stamford Bridge

The training session marked a period of transition following the departure of Rui Borges. Although Borges visited the club’s facility on Monday morning—departing at 10:25 local time—B-team coach Tiago Fernandes directed the morning workout and will lead the senior team in London.

Sporting’s traveling party is scheduled to depart for the English capital early Monday afternoon. Upon arrival at Stamford Bridge, Tiago Fernandes and midfielder Sergi Altimira will address journalists at 19:00 local time to preview the clash against the Ukrainian side.

Youth League Contingency Plans in Place

Because Tiago Fernandes is taking charge of the senior squad for the Champions League fixture, the club activated internal adjustments for the UEFA Youth League. Under-23 coach Leandro Grimi will manage the youth side from the bench during their concurrent commitments.

Sporting faces Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday with kickoff scheduled for 17:45 local time (UTC+0) at Stamford Bridge, marking the fourth round of the Champions League league phase.
