Ghanaian table tennis official Eric Addo has earned a selection by the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) to officiate at the 2026 African Championships in Tangier, Morocco, where he will also have an opportunity to take a significant step towards attaining his Blue Badge.
The 2026 ITTF African Championships will take place in Tangier, Morocco, from October 18 to 25.
Addo described the appointment as a major milestone, noting that the continental competition offers an opportunity that not every umpire gets.
“It means a lot to me because this is one of the highest competitions in Africa, and not all umpires will have the opportunity to be called.”Eric Addo.
The championship will also provide Addo with an important assessment opportunity as he pursues Blue Badge status, an internationally recognised qualification for table tennis umpires.
He explained that he was preparing diligently ahead of the tournament, where an ITTF representative will evaluate his officiating.
“I am preparing very well because in this competition I will be evaluated by an ITTF person before I can obtain my Blue Badge.” Eric Addo.
Addo expressed gratitude to God for the opportunities he has received and thanked the Ghana Revenue Authority, specifically the Customs Division for granting him permission to travel for officiating assignments. He also acknowledged the Ghana Table Tennis Association (GTTA), its president, Mr. Mawuko Afadzinu, and everyone who has supported him through their prayers and encouragement.
His selection adds to Ghana’s officiating presence at the continental championship and offers him an opportunity to demonstrate his abilities on an important international stage.
