North Korea’s six-goal victory ends Morocco’s U17 World Cup campaign

Morocco’s run at the 2026 Women’s U17 World Cup ended in the last 16 after they were beaten 6-0 by reigning champions North Korea on Wednesday.

The Lioncelles de l’Atlas were unable to cope with the pace and intensity of a North Korean side that took control from the opening moments of the match. The result brought a decisive end to Morocco’s campaign and exposed the gap that remains between the young Moroccan team and the leading nations in the competition.

Having reached the knockout stage, Morocco faced one of the strongest teams in the age group. North Korea, known as the Azalees Orientales, immediately imposed their style, keeping possession for long periods and repeatedly threatening the Moroccan defence.

Morocco were given little opportunity to settle into the match. Their opponents’ pressure produced a four-goal advantage before the interval, with North Korea leading 4-0 at half-time and leaving virtually no doubt about the outcome.

The Lioncelles struggled to find a response after the break. Defensive difficulties and a series of misplaced passes allowed the reigning world champions to maintain their control and continue creating danger.

North Korea added two further goals in the second half to complete a 6-0 victory. The margin of defeat reflected their dominance throughout the match and brought Morocco’s participation in the tournament to a severe conclusion.

Reaching the last 16 remains a positive achievement for Morocco, but the performance also underlined the work still required if the team is to compete more closely with the world’s best youth sides.

The experience provides an opportunity for the country to assess the progress of its young players and identify the areas that need to improve. For Morocco, the next task will be to turn the lessons of the tournament into long-term development.

Strengthening player development, arranging more international matches and providing continued support for young footballers will be important if Morocco are to narrow the distance between themselves and the leading teams.
