Former France international Samir Nasri has questioned Harry Kane’s credentials for the Ballon d’Or, arguing that Barcelona youngster Lamine Yamal deserved the prestigious individual award instead.

Nasri expressed doubts about the criteria used to assess Kane, insisting that the England captain’s goalscoring record and domestic success should not automatically make him the leading candidate.

“I respect Harry Kane, but what criteria did he meet to win the Ballon d’Or?” Nasri questioned.

He argued that Kane was not the best player in the Bundesliga, pointing instead to Bayern Munich teammate Michael Olise, while also questioning Kane’s standing in major international and European matches.

Nasri maintained that Yamal was more deserving of the award, highlighting the Barcelona forward’s performances and influence on the pitch.

The debate reflects the longstanding disagreement surrounding the Ballon d’Or, with voters weighing individual performances, team achievements and contributions across major competitions.

Kane’s goalscoring exploits and success with Bayern Munich have strengthened his reputation among Europe’s leading forwards, while Yamal has emerged as one of football’s most exciting young talents through his performances for Barcelona and Spain.
