Black Queens captain Portia Boakye earns nomination for 2026 CAF Women’s Player of the Year

The Black Queens of Ghana captain Portia Boakye has been nominated for the 2026 CAF Women’s Player of the Year award.

Boakye’s nomination follows her contribution to Ghana’s 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations campaign, where she featured in five matches and provided one assist as the Black Queens reached the quarter-finals.

She joins goalkeeper Cynthia Konlan as the only two Ghanaian players to have earned nominations for the individual award this year. Cynthia Konlan is in contention for the Goalkeeper of the Year gong after explosive performance for the Black Queens at the Women’s AFCON tournament.

Meanwhile, Boakye faces a stern competition from seasoned African players including Zambia’s Barbra Banda, Thembi Kgatlana of South Africa, Cameroonian duo of Marie Ngah Manga and Monique Ngock.

Other nominees include, Hanane Ait El Haj of Morocco, Algeria’s Marine Dafeur and Malawi duo of Tabitha Chawinga and Temwa Chawinga.

The 2026 CAF Awards, slated for Monday, December 7, 2026, will celebrate outstanding performances across African football over the eligibility period.
