Former Hearts of Oak captain Lawrence Adjah-Tetteh has called for a combination of home-based and foreign players in the Black Stars ahead of the crucial 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers this month.
The former defender believes incorporating players from the domestic league alongside those plying their trade abroad could provide the national team with the right balance as they look to recover from their disappointing start to the qualifiers.
Ghana endured a difficult opening to their campaign last month, suffering a 2-0 defeat to neighbours Ivory Coast in Bouaké before losing further ground with a disappointing result against The Gambia on home soil.
However, Adjah-Tetteh, who was part of the historic Black Stars side made up entirely of Hearts of Oak players that faced Nigeria in a 2002 FIFA World Cup qualifier, believes a combination of local and foreign-based players would give Ghana a stronger squad.
"I think when we blend local and foreign-based players, it will be okay. It depends on the coach. He will identify the players who can fit into the team. We should allow him to come in and select his players so that we can have a better team," he told Citi Sports.
"We want a win for the Black Stars to qualify. We can beat Somalia, and we should give the team maximum support," he added.
Meanwhile, Adjah-Tetteh has expressed confidence in Godwin Attram and Ibrahim Tanko, backing the former Ghana internationals to use their experience to help the team navigate the challenging period.
"I have confidence in Godwin Attram and Ibrahim Tanko because they are former players and have the experience. They can do it. I believe we can win and even qualify," he stated.
The Black Stars are scheduled to host Somalia on November 12 at the Essipong Sports Stadium in Sekondi before travelling to face the same opponents in the return fixture on November 16 at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Ghana currently sit bottom of Group C without a point after losing their opening two matches, leaving them under pressure to collect maximum points from the double-header to keep their hopes of reaching the 2027 AFCON alive.
