Cameroonian forward Karl Etta Eyong came off the bench to score a stoppage-time goal as Levante UD secured a dramatic 3-1 victory over Athletic Club at the Estadi Ciutat de València.
The 23-year-old sealed the win in the 98th minute, capping an eventful second-half appearance and punishing Athletic Club as they struggled to recover from Aymeric Laporte’s dismissal.
Levante had established a commanding first-half advantage through Roger Brugué, who scored twice in the space of two minutes to put the hosts firmly in control.
Brugué opened the scoring in the 20th minute, finishing off an assist from Dani Requena before doubling Levante’s lead just two minutes later. The quickfire goals gave the home side a strong platform as Athletic Club searched for a response.
The visitors found a way back into the contest in the 67th minute when Álex Berenguer converted a penalty to reduce the deficit to 2-1, setting up a tense finish.
However, Athletic Club’s hopes of completing the comeback suffered a major setback six minutes later. Laporte was shown a straight red card in the 73rd minute for a last-man foul, leaving the visitors with 10 men for the closing stages.
Eyong, introduced in the second half, was booked in the 77th minute as the intensity increased. Despite the caution, the Cameroonian remained a threat and eventually delivered the decisive moment deep into stoppage time.
In the 90+8th minute, Eyong broke through to score Levante’s third goal, extinguishing Athletic Club’s hopes of salvaging a point and confirming a valuable home victory.
The late strike underlined the forward’s ability to make an impact off the bench, with his contribution proving decisive in a match that featured early goals, a penalty and a red card.
For Levante, the victory was built on Brugué’s clinical finishing and completed by Eyong’s late intervention. For the Cameroonian international, the goal provided another opportunity to demonstrate his growing importance and attacking threat in Spanish football.
