Manchester United are reportedly considering a move for Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White as they begin assessing potential recruitment targets ahead of the 2027 summer transfer window.
According to a report by FootballTransfers on Friday, 6 November 2026, United are monitoring the England international alongside Tottenham Hotspur, who are also interested in securing his services. However, persuading Forest to part with one of their key players could prove difficult.
Gibbs-White has been linked with a departure from the City Ground for more than a year. The 26-year-old committed his future to Forest last summer by signing a lucrative long-term contract.
Forest are reportedly determined to retain the midfielder in 2027 and have no intention of allowing him to leave during the January transfer window. Manager Oliver Glasner considers him an important part of the club’s plans, meaning any interested team may have to overcome significant resistance before negotiations can progress.
FootballTransfers estimates Gibbs-White’s current value at approximately €75.1 million, with his projected transfer valuation ranging from €67.6 million to €82.6 million.
United’s interest is reportedly linked to uncertainty surrounding Bruno Fernandes. The Portuguese midfielder could leave Old Trafford permanently next year, prompting the club to consider replacements in case their captain moves on.
Gibbs-White has emerged as a possible candidate because of his creativity, attacking influence and ability to operate in different midfield roles. His performances for Forest have shown that he can contribute in advanced areas and help create opportunities. Those qualities could make him an attractive option if Fernandes departs.
Tottenham, however, are expected to provide competition. Spurs manager Roberto De Zerbi is reportedly keen to improve his attacking midfield options, with concerns surrounding the form of Conor Gallagher and James Maddison. Gibbs-White is viewed as someone who could bring greater creativity and offer another dimension to Tottenham’s attack.
If Forest eventually consider a sale, United may therefore face a contest with their Premier League rivals.
Gibbs-White is not the only player being considered at Old Trafford. United are also understood to be looking at a left-back after failing to sign Lewis Hall in the previous summer window. A central defender could become another priority if Lisandro Martínez leaves, amid reports of tensions between the Argentine and the club’s hierarchy.
Bournemouth winger Marcus Tavernier has also been mentioned as a possible target, with United reportedly holding internal discussions ahead of January.
The club’s recruitment strategy may also be affected by Michael Carrick’s position. The manager faced mounting pressure after a poor start to the campaign, but United’s dramatic 3-2 Champions League comeback victory over Roma offered temporary relief. They overturned a two-goal deficit to claim their first win since September 10.
United now turn their attention to Sunday’s Premier League meeting with Aston Villa, hoping to build on that result. Their longer-term plans, meanwhile, could depend on Fernandes’ decision, Forest’s stance and whether United are willing to meet the financial demands of a Gibbs-White transfer.
