Former Black Stars captain André “Dede” Ayew has spoken about reports linking him to a possible Ghana Football Association (GFA) presidential bid in 2027.
Ayew confirmed that he had received phone calls from football stakeholders encouraging him to consider the position. However, he has not officially declared his intention to contest the election.
Speaking on the Obi One Podcast hosted by former Chelsea and Nigeria midfielder John Mikel Obi, Ayew said his main concern is the development of Ghana football.
The former Ghana captain believes the current football authorities should begin working to solve the problems facing the game instead of waiting for a change in leadership.
Ayew also stressed the need to improve the way young Ghanaian players are prepared for life outside football. He called for financial education to help players manage their earnings and make better decisions about their future.
Meanwhile, Mikel Obi has publicly backed Ayew and said he is willing to campaign for him to become the next GFA president.
The discussion comes as pressure grows for changes in Ghana football following concerns about the performance of the national teams and the state of the domestic game.
For now, Ayew has not confirmed whether he will enter the race. Football fans will be watching closely to see if he makes an official announcement ahead of the 2027 election.
