According to a Post on Bongo Ideas official facebook account on Friday, October 23,2026,Ghanaian social commentator Albert Nat Hyde, popularly known as Bongo Ideas, has criticised the state of football facilities in the country following a controversial remark by Petros Koukoura about the pitch at Debibi United.
Koukoura reportedly described the playing surface as being more suitable for cassava cultivation than football, a comment that has drawn attention to concerns about the quality of pitches used for football in Ghana.
In a Facebook post, Bongo Ideas expressed disappointment that Ghana’s football facilities had deteriorated to the point where foreign coaches could openly ridicule them. He questioned calls for the public to support local football when the conditions under which matches are played remain unsatisfactory.
“Support what exactly? You expect me to pay money to watch football on such a pitch?” he asked, challenging football stakeholders to address the conditions discouraging supporters from attending matches.
Bongo Ideas also turned his attention to the preference for foreign coaches among Ghanaian football clubs, arguing that the country has qualified local coaches who deserve greater opportunities.
He questioned why clubs continue to spend substantial sums recruiting foreign coaches when competent Ghanaian professionals are available to lead their teams.
However, while acknowledging that Koukoura’s criticism of the pitch might reflect genuine concerns, Bongo Ideas described the manner in which the observation was expressed as disrespectful.
His comments highlight the tension between acknowledging the shortcomings of Ghana’s football infrastructure and maintaining respect for the country’s football community.
Bongo Ideas further lamented that Ghanaian football was becoming less attractive, suggesting that the problems confronting the sport required practical solutions rather than continued arguments over criticism from foreign coaches.
