The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has announced its decision to part ways with head coach Hossam Hassan and appoint Ali Maher as his replacement to lead the country's senior national football team.
The announcement was made on Saturday, November 7, 2026, bringing an end to Hassan's time in charge of the Pharaohs. Hassan, who previously led Egypt at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, had been responsible for overseeing the national team's preparations and performances during the global tournament.
According to the federation, the decision followed concerns about recent developments surrounding the national team. The EFA indicated that certain events had negatively affected the team's positive image and stability, leading the association's board to terminate its working relationship with Hassan and members of his technical and administrative staff.
The federation also expressed appreciation to the former coach for his contributions during his tenure and wished him success in his future endeavours.
Following Hassan's departure, Ali Maher has been appointed to take over the national team. Maher, who has previously managed Egyptian club Ceramica Cleopatra, is expected to begin preparations for his new responsibilities.
The federation has also requested that the incoming coach submit his proposed list of technical team members who will work alongside him in managing the national side.
Maher's appointment comes as Egypt prepares for its upcoming international assignments, including the scheduled 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Malawi on November 13 and 17.
Hassan's departure represents a change in the technical leadership of Egyptian football, with attention now turning to Maher's plans for the team and how he intends to approach the upcoming fixtures.
The development has attracted attention among football followers across Africa, particularly given its timing ahead of Egypt's next international engagements.
