According to a report by Barca Universal on Thursday, October 15, 2026, Barcelona are sticking to their original development plan for Jesse Bisiwu as they prepare the teenage winger for a possible breakthrough into Hansi Flick’s first team.
Barcelona signed the 18 year old from Club Brugge last summer for €8.5 million plus add-ons, despite his limited experience in senior football.
The Catalan club spent several months negotiating with Club Brugge before completing the deal. Barcelona view Bisiwu as one of Europe’s most promising young talents and are determined to help him settle into his new environment.
Reports indicate that the club has maintained its initial plan for the winger. Bisiwu regularly trains with Flick’s first team squad but joins Barça Atlètic, managed by Juliano Belletti, in the days leading up to senior matches. This arrangement allows him to gain valuable experience through regular competitive football.
Training with the senior squad also gives Bisiwu the opportunity to learn Flick’s tactical approach and understand the demands of playing for Barcelona. It allows him to build relationships with established players while preparing for a possible promotion.
However, regular playing time remains important for his progress. Barcelona want him to regain his match fitness after struggling for opportunities during the second half of his previous season at Club Brugge.
The club also recognises that adapting to a new country and environment takes time. Since Bisiwu is experiencing life away from home for the first time, Barcelona believe he needs patience and support during the transition.
Although the winger has considerable potential, he must continue working hard to meet Flick’s expectations and earn a place in the senior team.
Belletti is helping him understand the responsibilities of a winger within Barcelona’s system while ensuring he becomes familiar with the club’s playing philosophy.
Meanwhile, coordination between Barcelona’s first team and reserve side has improved under the supervision of Deco, Bojan and Joao Amaral. The structure is designed to provide young players such as Bisiwu with a clearer pathway towards senior football.
Barcelona remain committed to his development and believe that consistent progress, regular playing time and adaptation to the club’s style will improve his chances of breaking into Flick’s first team.
