According to a report by BBC Sport on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, Paris SaintGermain defeated Barcelona 4-2 in an entertaining Champions League encounter on Tuesday night, handing Hansi Flick’s side their first defeat of the season across all competitions.
Barcelona started strongly, creating several opportunities through Pedri and Lamine Yamal, but PSG goalkeeper Matvey Safonov made important saves to keep his team in the contest. The French champions also threatened early, with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia striking the post as both sides searched for the opening goal.
PSG suffered an injury setback in the 20th minute when Ousmane Dembele was forced off, allowing Ferran Torres to enter the match. Barcelona also lost Dani Olmo to injury seven minutes later, with Fermin Lopez replacing the midfielder.
Desire Doue broke the deadlock in the 38th minute, finishing Joao Neves’ headed pass beyond Joan Garcia to give PSG the advantage before half-time. Barcelona struggled to convert their chances, leaving the hosts with a deserved lead at the interval.
The Spanish side responded in the 55th minute when Fermin Lopez released Xavi Espart inside the penalty area, allowing the youngster to finish confidently into the right corner. Barcelona continued pushing forward in search of another goal, hoping to take control of the encounter.
However, PSG regained the lead in the 72nd minute when Lucas Hernandez headed Doue’s corner into the top-right corner. Barcelona refused to surrender, and Yamal levelled the score in the 79th minute after an impressive solo run before beating Safonov.
The celebrations did not last long, as Vitinha restored PSG’s advantage two minutes later with a powerful strike from outside the penalty area. Fabian Ruiz then sealed the victory in the 86th minute, finishing into an empty net after receiving a decisive pass from Achraf Hakimi.
Barcelona attempted to respond during the closing stages but could not find another goal. The defeat ended their unbeaten start to the campaign, while PSG delivered an impressive attacking performance despite losing key players to injuries.
Flick’s side must now address their defensive problems after conceding four goals, while preparing for their upcoming El Clásico against Real Madrid.
