Ghana U-15 Suffer Painful Penalty Shootout Defeat to Paraguay, Miss Out on World Cup Semi-Finals

According to a report by TV3 Ghana on Thursday, October 29, 2026, Ghana’s national U-15 football team have been eliminated from the FIFA U-15 World Cup and Festival after suffering a penalty shootout defeat to Paraguay in the quarter-finals.

The young Ghanaian players were hoping to secure a place in the semi-finals after an impressive performance throughout the competition. However, their hopes were dashed when Paraguay defeated them 7-6 in the penalty shootout following a 2-2 draw at the end of regulation time.

The defeat ended Ghana’s unbeaten run of six matches in the tournament. Before the quarter-final encounter, the team had recorded five consecutive victories in the group stage before defeating South Korea 2-1 to reach the last eight.

Ghana also demonstrated their attacking strength during the group stage, scoring 27 goals in five matches. The team defeated Uzbekistan 4-1, Myanmar 7-1, Guam 7-0, the Bahamas 7-0 and Kazakhstan 2-1 to finish at the top of Group W.

Despite their elimination from the semi-final race, Ghana will continue participating in the tournament through the ranking matches. Under the competition format, the teams that lose their quarter-final matches will compete for positions between fifth and eighth.

Ghana are scheduled to face Brazil in the Tier A Ranking Play-Offs, with the match expected to determine their final position in the competition being held in Azerbaijan.

The Ghanaian team have made a strong impression in the tournament, recording seven victories from eight matches and scoring 36 goals. Their performances have highlighted the potential of the country's young footballers and offered encouragement for the future of Ghanaian football.

Although the penalty shootout defeat will be disappointing for the players and their supporters, the team still have an opportunity to finish the competition on a positive note by securing a strong position in the remaining ranking matches.

Their upcoming encounter with Brazil will therefore be an important test as they seek to recover from the disappointment against Paraguay and conclude their campaign with another impressive performance.
