Barcelona president Joan Laporta has received fresh backing in his campaign to bring the 2030 FIFA World Cup final to the renovated Spotify Camp Nou, as the Catalan club increases its efforts to secure the prestigious event.
According to a report by Barca Universal on Monday, November 2, 2026, Laporta has joined forces with Barcelona mayor Jaume Collboni and Spanish Football Federation president Rafael Louzan in supporting the idea of hosting the tournament's final at the stadium.
The three officials reportedly share the ambition of bringing the competition's most important match to Barcelona when Spain, Portugal and Morocco jointly host the 2030 World Cup.
Laporta has repeatedly expressed his desire to see Camp Nou selected for the final and remains hopeful that the stadium can emerge ahead of competing venues.
Speaking during an event showcasing the World Cup trophy at Barcelona's city hall, the club president expressed confidence in the city's chances.
"We are optimistic and hope that it happens," Laporta said.
Barcelona mayor Jaume Collboni has also publicly supported the proposal, revealing his ambition to see the final played at Camp Nou on July 21, 2030.
"We would love July 21, 2030, the day of the World Cup final, to be at Camp Nou. And for Spain's captain to lift the trophy here again," Collboni stated.
He further described the renovated stadium as a potential contender for the title of Europe's best football venue, adding that the city was working towards making the proposal a reality.
The mayor's support represents an important boost for Barcelona, although the club still faces competition from Real Madrid's Santiago Bernabeu.
Spanish Football Federation president Rafael Louzan has also welcomed the possibility of Camp Nou hosting the final but has avoided committing himself fully to the proposal.
"Hopefully it happens. There are possibilities," Louzan said, acknowledging that the Bernabeu must also be considered during the selection process.
Morocco presents another significant challenge, with the country reportedly proposing its planned Grand Stade Hassan II as a potential venue for the final.
The 2030 World Cup will be jointly organised by Spain, Portugal and Morocco as part of celebrations marking the tournament's 100th anniversary.
Barcelona believe the ongoing renovation of Camp Nou will strengthen their application, with the completed stadium expected to become one of Europe's largest and most prestigious football venues.
The club has also secured permission to host the 2029 UEFA Champions League final, further demonstrating its ambitions to make the renovated ground a major destination for international football.
However, securing the 2030 World Cup final remains far from guaranteed. Real Madrid and Morocco are serious competitors, and the final decision will depend on the relevant football authorities and tournament organisers.
For now, Laporta has gained valuable support from Barcelona's mayor and the Spanish federation president as the club continues its campaign to bring the historic final to Camp Nou.
