According to a report by Football London on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, Chelsea teenager Ryan Kavuma-McQueen has impressed during his loan spell at Portsmouth, earning praise from manager John Mousinho and providing Blues head coach Xabi Alonso with an encouraging indication of his potential.
The 17-year-old winger has emerged as one of the Championship's most effective dribblers since joining Portsmouth on loan during the summer transfer window.
The Cobham academy graduate has made an immediate impact on the south coast, establishing himself as an important member of Mousinho's squad through his ability to beat defenders, create chances and contribute to the team's attacking play.
Kavuma-McQueen particularly impressed during Portsmouth's victory over Sheffield United, completing his first full 90 minutes for the club.
He played a key role in setting up Adrian Segečić's goal after beating Tahith Chong on the left flank before delivering a dangerous cross into the six-yard box.
The performance followed a difficult South Coast derby defeat against Southampton, during which the teenager was substituted at half-time. However, Mousinho was pleased with how the young winger responded.
"I don’t want to get carried away... I thought he was awesome tonight," the Portsmouth manager said.
"I thought he was a joy to watch. He worked his socks off, which I thought was a big step forward for him."
Mousinho acknowledged that the teenager still needs to improve his understanding of pressing responsibilities and when to track opponents. Nevertheless, he believes Kavuma-McQueen's attacking threat is already evident.
His statistics further demonstrate his progress. Across 10 Championship appearances, including seven starts, the winger has completed 24 successful dribbles, the highest total in the division at the time of the report.
His average of 2.4 successful dribbles per 90 minutes is also the best in the league.
Kavuma-McQueen has previously spoken about his admiration for former Chelsea star Eden Hazard, whose dribbling ability influenced his development as a winger.
"I’ve watched a lot of games there and seen some great players represent this club," Kavuma-McQueen said.
"Obviously, as a young winger, one that I always loved was Eden Hazard."
The teenager also identified Cristiano Ronaldo as one of the players he admired while growing up.
His progress at Portsmouth offers Chelsea an encouraging sign of his development, with his performances suggesting he could have a promising future as he continues gaining experience in senior football.
