Chris Wilder Praises Jordan Ayew After Sheffield United’s Win Over Bristol City

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has praised Ghana captain Jordan Ayew following an impressive performance in the club’s 1-0 victory over Bristol City in the English Championship.

Ayew made his first start for Sheffield United since joining the club as a free agent in September, helping the Blades secure an important away win at Ashton Gate on Saturday, October 17, 2026.

The experienced forward played 69 minutes and earned recognition from Wilder for his work rate, pressing and contribution to the team’s overall performance.

Wilder impressed by Ayew’s performance

Wilder expressed his satisfaction with Ayew’s display after making changes to his starting lineup following Sheffield United’s midweek defeat.

“I’m delighted for Jordan,” the manager said, adding that the Ghanaian’s performance was really good.

Wilder explained that Ayew’s work helped the team press Bristol City, put pressure on their opponents and regain possession to control the game.

The manager also expressed hope that the performance would provide a boost to the forward’s confidence as he continues settling into life at Bramall Lane.

Ayew’s contribution was particularly significant as he continues working towards a more regular role in the Sheffield United team.

Oliver Arblaster scores the winner

While Ayew helped Sheffield United with his movement and pressing, midfielder Oliver Arblaster scored the decisive goal in the fifth minute.

Arblaster capitalised on a partially cleared ball inside the penalty area and fired home to give the visitors an early advantage.

Sheffield United maintained their lead for the remainder of the match to secure all three points and respond positively to their previous league defeat against Portsmouth.

The victory also offered encouragement to Wilder as he continues adjusting his lineup and seeking greater consistency from his players.

Ayew’s experience proving valuable

The Ghanaian forward joined Sheffield United after his contract with Leicester City expired. His experience in English football and international competitions was expected to provide an additional attacking option for Wilder.

Although Ayew has yet to register a goal or assist for the Blades, his contribution against Bristol City demonstrated how his experience and work rate can help the team beyond the scoresheet.

His ability to press defenders and contribute to the team’s shape could prove valuable as Sheffield United navigate the demanding Championship campaign.

For Ayew, regular playing time will also be important as he looks to maintain his sharpness and continue contributing to Ghana’s national team.

Sheffield United look to build momentum

The win over Bristol City provided Sheffield United with a timely response after their midweek setback.

Wilder will now hope his players can build on the performance and turn improved displays into a consistent run of results.

Ayew, meanwhile, will aim to use his first start as a platform for securing more opportunities in the starting lineup.

The manager’s public praise signals encouragement for the Ghanaian forward, although his future role will depend on his performances and the team’s tactical needs in the matches ahead.
