According to a report by Daily Post on Saturday, October 17, 2026, former Manchester United defender Danny Simpson has suggested that Cristiano Ronaldo could become a football manager after retiring from professional football, saying the Portuguese star has the qualities required to succeed in the role.
Ronaldo, who currently plays for Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr, is approaching another significant stage in his career, with reports suggesting he could retire at the end of the current season.
Speaking to GOAL, Simpson, who previously played alongside Ronaldo at Manchester United, explained why he believes the five-time Ballon d'Or winner could be successful in management.
“It would be interesting, Ronaldo as manager, but I think the way he speaks, the way he is, his standards, what he expects, especially when he came back to United,” Simpson said.
“I think he’s got it in him to be a top manager and know the game and study the game. It would be interesting to see him.”
Simpson highlighted Ronaldo's personality, discipline and high standards as qualities that could help him transition into coaching after ending his playing career.
Throughout his career, Ronaldo has worked with several renowned managers, including Sir Alex Ferguson, Carlo Ancelotti, Zinedine Zidane and José Mourinho. Their experience and guidance could provide valuable lessons if he eventually decides to manage a team.
However, succeeding as a manager would require more than the qualities that have made Ronaldo one of football's greatest players. He would also need to develop his tactical knowledge, coaching methods and ability to manage players with different personalities.
Meanwhile, uncertainty remains over Ronaldo's future at Al-Nassr. His current contract is due to expire next summer, and discussions over a possible extension have reportedly not yet started.
The situation has fuelled speculation about how long the 41-year-old intends to continue playing professionally, although his retirement plans have not been officially confirmed.
Ronaldo has enjoyed an exceptional career, winning major domestic and European trophies while establishing himself as one of football's most prolific goalscorers.
Whether he eventually moves into management or pursues another opportunity after retirement remains unclear.
