Real Madrid Rejected Offers for Lunin as Goalkeeper Remains Confident in His Abilities

Andriy Lunin’s situation at Real Madrid remains unusual, with the Ukrainian goalkeeper continuing to deliver impressive performances despite spending most of his time as backup to Thibaut Courtois.

According to Madrid Universal on Friday, October 30, 2026, Lunin has repeatedly demonstrated his quality whenever opportunities have arisen, attracting interest from clubs seeking a reliable first choice goalkeeper. However, neither the player nor Real Madrid appears particularly eager to end their relationship.

A report by AS indicates that the Spanish giants consider Lunin the ideal deputy for Courtois and have complete confidence in his abilities. Former goalkeeping coach Luis Llopis and his successor, Nuno Santos, reportedly share that view.

Lunin received offers to leave during the summers of 2024 and 2025, but none persuaded him to move. The goalkeeper reportedly values his stability in Madrid, his position within the dressing room and the reputation he has established at the club.

Although the possibility of becoming a regular starter elsewhere has been discussed, he remains comfortable with his current situation. His representative, Jorge Mendes, is also said to have played an important role in convincing him to stay.

Even when Lunin reportedly expressed a desire to leave, Real Madrid were unwilling to consider his departure. Instead, the club demonstrated its commitment by extending his contract until 2030.

The 27 year old also has considerable confidence in his own abilities and does not view himself as inferior to Courtois. While acknowledging the Belgian's exceptional quality, Lunin believes he can deliver similarly strong performances whenever called upon.

His displays during Courtois’ absences have provided evidence of that confidence. Most recently, he impressed against Barcelona, producing six important saves to help Real Madrid secure a significant victory.

Despite his impressive contribution, Lunin is expected to return to the bench once Courtois is available. However, he is reportedly prepared to accept that role without creating tension, remaining committed to providing dependable cover and competition within the squad.

His continued presence gives Real Madrid a goalkeeper they trust, while allowing Lunin to remain at a club where he feels valued.
