According to a report by the Daily Mail on Sunday, October 25, 2026, Brighton manager Fabian Hürzeler has sparked debate after his side’s 2-0 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield, insisting that his players showed attacking ambition despite losing the match.
Brighton suffered a disappointing Premier League defeat, with a Pascal Groß own goal and a strike from Alexander Isak securing Liverpool’s fourth consecutive victory. However, Hürzeler was frustrated with the result, believing his team had created enough chances to make the contest more competitive.
Speaking after the match, the Brighton manager praised his players for following their game plan and continuing to look for opportunities despite the final score.
“Everyone in the stadium saw that there was one team who really tried to create and try to win this game and therefore I have to praise my players,” Hürzeler said.
His comments appeared to question the attacking approach of Liverpool, although he did not directly accuse the home side of failing to try to win. Instead, he focused on Brighton’s efforts and their inability to convert chances into goals.
Hürzeler believes the outcome could have been different if his players had been more clinical in front of goal. Brighton had a promising opportunity to take the lead when Yasin Ayari missed a chance while the score was still goalless.
The visitors created other opportunities before Liverpool scored, leaving their manager disappointed that they failed to take advantage of their chances.
“Everyone in the stadium felt there was a missed opportunity for us, because it's not only after the goal or the goals they scored,” he added.
Also, before they scored, we had one, two big chances and today I think it was just the difference that they scored, we didn't score.
Brighton’s poor finishing ultimately proved costly. Liverpool took advantage of their opportunities, while the visitors were left to regret their missed chances.
The opening goal came through a Groß own goal before Isak added the second to secure the victory. The result extended Liverpool’s winning run to four matches and strengthened their position in the Premier League top-four race.
Despite the defeat, Hürzeler remained determined to take positives from his team’s performance, praising their commitment and belief in his tactical approach.
“Overall I saw a team with a lot of good things to take away. I saw a team that really had the belief in our approach, that stuck to the match plan, that always kept going,” he said.
