According to a report by Barca Universal on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, Barcelona youngster Hamza Abdelkarim has earned a place on the final 10-man shortlist for the 2026 CAF Young Player of the Year award.
The 18-year-old Egyptian forward is among several promising young footballers nominated for the continental honour, with Ayyoub Bouaddi of Manchester City also making the final list.
Abdelkarim's nomination reflects the progress he has made since joining Barcelona earlier this year. He initially arrived at the Catalan club in February on loan from Egyptian giants Al-Ahly before eventually completing a permanent move.
The teenager quickly made an impression while playing for Barcelona's Juvenil A Under-19 team during the second half of last season. His performances convinced the club to activate the permanent purchase option included in his loan agreement after he scored six goals in nine league appearances.
His development also attracted attention internationally after he made his senior debut for Egypt and represented his country at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Following his permanent arrival, Barcelona manager Hansi Flick brought the young forward into the first-team setup. Abdelkarim also impressed during pre-season, scoring four goals.
However, opportunities have been limited since the beginning of the 2026–27 campaign. The Egyptian has managed just 12 minutes of first-team football, although he has also scored once in his only appearance for Barcelona Atletic.
Despite his limited playing time, Barcelona continue to hold the youngster in high regard and believe he has significant potential.
Abdelkarim will face competition from several other talented players for the CAF award. The shortlist includes Ayyoub Bouaddi of Manchester City, Yan Diomande of Real Madrid, and Bayer Leverkusen duo Christian Kofane and Ibrahim Maza.
Other nominees include Ibrahim Mbaye of Aston Villa, Christ Inao, Caleb Yirenkyi, Ismael Kamissoko and Abdellah Ouazane.
The nomination represents an important milestone in Abdelkarim's young career and further highlights the recognition he has earned for his performances and development.
