According to a report by the London Evening Standard on Thursday, October 22, 2026, Bruno Guimaraes disclosed that he had begun celebrating before Manuel Neuer made an exceptional save to prevent his header from finding the net during Arsenal’s 2-2 Champions League draw against Bayern Munich.
The Arsenal midfielder praised the German goalkeeper after the encounter, admitting that he was astonished by how Neuer managed to keep his effort out at the Allianz Arena.
Speaking after the match, Guimaraes described the intervention as extraordinary and revealed that he approached Neuer after the final whistle to ask how he had managed to make such a save. The Brazilian also recognised the goalkeeper’s reputation as one of football’s most accomplished players.
“Unbelievable save. I was already celebrating. When the game finished I came to him and said: how did you save that?” Guimaraes said.
The moment stood out in an entertaining contest between the two European giants. Arsenal opened the scoring through Eberechi Eze, but Bayern Munich responded with an equaliser to bring the match level. Harry Kane then converted a penalty in the second half to give the German side the advantage.
However, Arsenal refused to give up and eventually found a late equaliser through Declan Rice in the 82nd minute. His goal secured a valuable point for the visitors after an intense battle in Munich.
Neuer played an important role for Bayern throughout the encounter, producing an outstanding reflex save to deny Guimaraes’ second-half header and prevent Arsenal from taking the lead. Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya also made several crucial interventions, including a save to keep out Dayot Upamecano’s header.
Guimaraes joined Arsenal from Newcastle United during the summer transfer window in a deal worth £75 million. Since arriving at the Emirates Stadium, the midfielder has already demonstrated his quality by scoring twice in the Premier League, including a late winner on his home debut against Leeds United.
His display against Bayern further demonstrated his attacking ability and threat in front of goal. Arsenal remain unbeaten in the Champions League league phase after three matches, with the draw in Munich keeping their European campaign on course.
Guimaraes’ reaction to Neuer’s remarkable intervention underlined how close Arsenal came to scoring another decisive goal in a closely contested encounter.
