According to a report by FootballTransfers on Saturday, October 24, 2026, Everton have opened discussions with Manchester United over a potential January move for Marcus Rashford, as the England international faces an uncertain future at Old Trafford.
Everton have reportedly held preliminary talks with Manchester United about signing the 28-year-old forward during the winter transfer window.
Rashford returned to United in the summer after spending time at Barcelona, where he enjoyed an impressive campaign, scoring 14 goals and providing 15 assists.
However, the forward has struggled to reproduce that form since rejoining the first team under former teammate Michael Carrick.
The winger has made six starts across all competitions this season without recording a goal or an assist. His performances have raised questions about his long-term future at United, with the club reportedly expecting him to leave in 2027.
Manchester United were prepared to sell Rashford during the summer transfer window, but a permanent move failed to materialise. Barcelona were among the clubs considered, although the forward did not find a suitable project, while United maintained their €30 million valuation.
His substantial wages also proved to be a potential obstacle for interested clubs.
Everton are now exploring the possibility of bringing Rashford to the Hill Dickinson Stadium as manager David Moyes looks to strengthen his attacking options.
The Merseyside club have struggled to score goals this season and were left short of recognised strikers after failing to sign Folarin Balogun on deadline day, leaving Thierno Barry as their main option.
It remains unclear whether Everton will pursue a permanent transfer or attempt to negotiate a loan deal with an option or obligation to buy.
Rashford's willingness to join another English club could also prove decisive, as he was reportedly reluctant to consider such a move during the summer.
The forward has previously spoken about becoming more comfortable playing as a central striker, despite his preference for operating on the left wing.
"For me, playing as a number nine is becoming more comfortable, more natural," Rashford told xBuyer in June 2025.
"Small things, such as playing back to goal, it’s becoming easier for me. You’re always in front of the goal, so you’re always dangerous."
Although discussions remain at an early stage, Everton's interest could offer Rashford a potential route out of Manchester United if both clubs can reach an agreement.
