According to a report by Football London on Thursday, November 5, 2026, Arsenal striker Viktor Gyokeres used the club's 2-1 Champions League victory over Slavia Prague on Wednesday night to demonstrate why Mikel Arteta's side invested heavily in bringing him to the Emirates Stadium.
The Swedish international delivered an impressive performance, scoring one goal and providing an assist as Arsenal dominated much of the first half. His contribution helped the Gunners secure another important European victory, taking their points tally to 10 from their opening four Champions League matches.
Gyokeres played a decisive role in Arsenal's opening goal in the ninth minute. Using his physical strength to escape his marker, the striker collected David Raya's long clearance before producing an excellent pass for Noni Madueke, who finished calmly to give the visitors the lead.
The 27 year old then doubled Arsenal's advantage shortly before half-time with an impressive individual contribution. After combining with Mikel Merino inside the penalty area, Gyokeres found space to direct a composed finish beyond the goalkeeper and into the far side of the net.
His performance attracted considerable praise from Arsenal supporters, with one fan describing it as the striker's best half-hour since joining the club. UEFA also recognised his contribution by awarding him the official Player of the Match honour.
Gyokeres' recent statistics further highlight his growing influence. Following an impressive international break in which he scored four goals for Sweden, he has returned to Arsenal and continued his scoring form, registering five goals in his last five appearances.
The striker has also recorded five goals and three assists across his previous 10 starts for Arsenal. His achievements place him alongside former Arsenal midfielder Freddie Ljungberg as one of only two Swedish players to have contributed to 16 goals in the Champions League.
His recent performances have also provided a response to earlier criticism, including Gary Lineker's suggestion that he might be more effective coming off the bench.
Although Kai Havertz remains another attacking option for Arteta, Gyokeres' improved link-up play, physical presence and ability to create opportunities for teammates have added another dimension to Arsenal's attack.
However, maintaining his effectiveness against stronger opposition, particularly in important matches, will be essential if he wants to establish himself as Arteta's undisputed first-choice striker.
Nevertheless, his display against Slavia Prague has strengthened his case for another starting opportunity when Arsenal face Hull on Saturday.
