Former Ghana international Tony Baffoe has spoken about the possibility of contesting for the Ghana Football Association (GFA) presidency ahead of the 2027 elections.
Baffoe, who has experience in football administration, said he has no immediate plans to contest the position. However, he has not completely ruled out the possibility of becoming a candidate in the future.
Speaking in an interview with 3Sports, the former Black Stars defender explained that he had rejected the idea several times because leading the GFA was not something he was currently driven to do.
He nevertheless suggested that his position could change over the next six, 12 or 24 months.
His comments have attracted attention as discussions about the next GFA presidential election continue to grow.
Current president Kurt Okraku has also refused to confirm whether he will seek a third term in office. He has said he will make his position known when the time is right, insisting that his immediate focus remains on his current responsibilities.
The 2027 election is expected to attract considerable interest, with former GFA vice-president George Afriyie opposing Okraku’s possible third-term bid. Former Black Stars captain André Ayew has also been linked to a potential contest, although no confirmed candidacy has been announced in the reports available.
Baffoe’s latest comments leave the door open for another possible name to enter the discussion, but for now, he has not declared his intention to run.
Ghanaian football fans will be watching closely as more figures reveal their plans ahead of the election.
The big question is whether new candidates will emerge to challenge the current leadership or whether Okraku will eventually confirm his intention to seek another term.
