According to a report by Adom FM today being Thursday, October 22, 2026, former Ghanaian footballer Augustine Arhinful has urged the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to establish a Technical Committee to protect coaches from interference and give them the freedom to make important decisions concerning their teams.
Arhinful believes that introducing such a committee could help address concerns about external influence in coaching and promote a more professional approach to football management in Ghana.
Coaches are responsible for making crucial decisions that determine the direction and performance of their teams. These responsibilities include player selection, tactical planning, training programmes and the development of strategies for competitive matches.
For coaches to deliver positive results, they need an environment that allows them to perform these duties without unnecessary pressure.
According to the proposal, a Technical Committee could serve as a structure for safeguarding the professional responsibilities of coaches while ensuring that football management follows established standards.
Interference in technical decisions can create difficulties for coaches, particularly when they are pressured to select certain players or adopt approaches that do not align with their footballing philosophy. Such situations can undermine a coach’s authority and make it harder to maintain discipline and consistency within a team.
Arhinful’s recommendation therefore highlights the need for the GFA to consider measures that would strengthen the independence of coaches and clarify the boundaries between technical responsibilities and administrative oversight.
A properly structured committee could also help improve communication between coaches, club officials and football administrators, reducing the possibility of disagreements over team management.
The proposal comes as discussions continue about the measures needed to improve the organisation and competitiveness of Ghanaian football. Giving coaches the necessary professional support is considered important for building stable teams and achieving long-term development goals.
Although establishing a Technical Committee would require clear responsibilities and effective implementation, Arhinful’s call draws attention to an important issue in football administration.
The GFA will need to consider how best to protect coaches’ technical decisions while maintaining accountability within the sport. Ultimately, the objective would be to create an environment where coaches can concentrate on developing players, preparing their teams and improving performance without undue interference.
