Ghanaian forward Antoine Semenyo has earned a place among Africa’s leading football stars after being nominated for the 2026 CAF Men’s Player of the Year award.
According to a report by GHOne TV on Thursday, November 5, 2026, the Manchester City attacker is one of ten players shortlisted for the prestigious individual honour following his performances during the 2025/26 season.
The nomination represents another important achievement in Semenyo’s career, particularly after his impressive displays in English football. His performances for Bournemouth before completing a move to Manchester City in January attracted attention, with his attacking qualities making him an influential figure.
The 26-year-old has demonstrated his ability to find the net, create scoring opportunities and challenge opposition defenders. He has also continued to represent Ghana at international level as a member of the Black Stars.
Semenyo will face competition from several established African footballers, including Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi, the reigning African Player of the Year, and Senegalese star Sadio Mané, who has previously won the award.
Other nominees include Ivory Coast’s Amad Diallo, DR Congo’s Yoane Wissa, Morocco’s Ismael Saibari and Brahim Diaz, Senegal’s Ismaila Sarr and Pape Gueye, and South Africa’s Teboho Mokoena.
Morocco and Senegal have three players each on the ten-man shortlist, while Ghana, Ivory Coast, DR Congo and South Africa have one representative apiece.
The 2026 CAF Awards ceremony is scheduled for December 7 in Lagos, Nigeria, where outstanding performers across African football will be recognised.
Semenyo’s inclusion has added to Ghana’s representation at the continental awards, with the Manchester City forward now in contention for one of African football’s most prestigious individual prizes.
