According to a report by BBC Sport on Saturday, October 17, 2026, Manchester City secured a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Ipswich Town in their Premier League encounter at the Etihad Stadium.
Manchester City made a strong start and took the lead in the 19th minute when Phil Foden found the net after Jeremy Doku created the opportunity, giving the hosts an early advantage.
However, Ipswich responded quickly and equalised just two minutes later. Daizen Maeda scored after receiving a pass from Abdoul Ouattara, capitalising on a defensive error to bring the visitors back into the contest.
City continued to dominate possession and regained the lead in the 34th minute when Erling Haaland headed home Mateo Kovacic’s delivery. The goal restored the hosts’ advantage before the interval.
Ipswich remained determined to stay in the game, but City continued to threaten in attack. Haaland scored his second goal in the 69th minute, finishing off a pass from Iliman Ndiaye to extend Manchester City’s lead to 3-1.
The visitors refused to give up and were given a lifeline in the closing stages when VAR awarded them a penalty following Marc Guehi’s foul on Abdul Fatawu. Zian Flemming converted from the spot in the 90th minute, reducing the deficit to 3-2 and setting up a tense finish.
Ipswich pushed forward in search of an equaliser during an extended period of stoppage time, but Manchester City held firm to secure all three points.
The victory provides City with another boost in their Premier League campaign, although conceding twice will raise questions about their defensive performance.
The result strengthens Manchester City’s position at the top of the Premier League table under Enzo Maresca, while Ipswich Town drop to 10th place after leaving the Etihad Stadium empty-handed.
