Real Madrid Superstar Officially Ruled out of El Clasico

According to a report by Madrid Universal on Sunday, October 25, 2026, Real Madrid have suffered a major setback ahead of their highly anticipated El Clasico encounter against Barcelona, with goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois ruled out at the last minute due to illness.

The Belgian shot-stopper’s absence means Jose Mourinho will be without his first-choice goalkeeper for a crucial fixture that could have a significant impact on the La Liga title race.

Real Madrid confirmed Courtois’ unavailability in an official statement released on Sunday, revealing that the experienced goalkeeper was suffering from flu and would miss the match against Barcelona. Young Ukrainian goalkeeper Illia Voloshyn has since been called up to replace him in the squad.

Courtois’ absence is a considerable blow for Los Blancos, given his importance in high-pressure matches. The Belgian has consistently produced crucial saves to keep Madrid competitive in difficult encounters, and his absence could prove costly against a Barcelona side with dangerous attacking options.

Andriy Lunin is expected to take Courtois’ place between the posts. The Ukrainian goalkeeper has previously stepped in when needed and has experience playing for Madrid. However, he faces a difficult challenge against Barcelona’s formidable forward line.

Lamine Yamal, Raphinha and Anthony Gordon could put Lunin under pressure throughout the contest. Barcelona’s aggressive pressing style will also require the goalkeeper to remain calm and accurate when distributing the ball under pressure.

Courtois’ absence could also affect Madrid’s defensive organisation, as his influence extends beyond making saves. His commanding presence in goal gives confidence to the defenders in front of him. Without the Belgian, Ibrahima Konate and his defensive teammates will need to remain focused and communicate effectively to limit Barcelona’s chances.

Despite the unexpected setback, Madrid still have enough quality to compete against their fierce rivals. However, Mourinho’s side must adapt quickly to the change in goal and maintain their defensive discipline throughout the encounter.

Protecting Lunin and preventing Barcelona from creating clear scoring opportunities will be crucial. With the La Liga title race at stake, Madrid must find a way to overcome Courtois’ absence if they are to secure a positive result in El Clasico.
