Lamine Yamal finally congratulates Harry Kane on Ballon D'Or win but refuses to mention his name

According to a report by Metro on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, Barcelona star Lamine Yamal has congratulated the winners of the 2026 Ballon d’Or ceremony after missing out on the prestigious individual award to Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane.

Kane claimed the award on Monday night at the London Palladium, finishing ahead of Kylian Mbappe, who came second, while Yamal secured third place.

The Barcelona teenager took to social media on Tuesday to congratulate the winners, although he did not specifically mention Kane by name.

“It will come, good things take time, I trust the path I'm building,” Yamal wrote.

“Without a hurry, with excitement and with tranquility that someday my time will come.

“Congratulations to the winners, my focus is again on what's important, to make FC Barcelona win again.”

Yamal’s message followed discussions about his reaction to Kane’s victory, with footage from the ceremony showing the Spanish winger appearing disappointed when the England captain was announced as the winner.

Although he missed out on the main prize, Yamal left the ceremony with an award of his own after winning the Young Talent of the Year honour for the third consecutive time.

His uncle, Abdul, had earlier criticised the outcome, arguing that his nephew deserved to win the Ballon d’Or ahead of Kane.

Speaking to Cadena SER, he said: “Everyone knows it. If you love football, you go to see Lamine, not Harry Kane.”

Real Madrid legend Guti also questioned the decision to hold the ceremony in London, suggesting that the location may have influenced Kane’s victory. However, no evidence was presented to support claims that the result was manipulated.

Kane enjoyed an outstanding 2025–26 season, scoring 73 goals as he helped Bayern Munich win a domestic treble and captained England to third place at the World Cup.

The 33-year-old finished ahead of Mbappe in a closely contested vote, becoming the first Englishman to win the men’s Ballon d’Or since Michael Owen in 2001.

Yamal, meanwhile, will aim to build on another impressive campaign as he continues his pursuit of football’s most prestigious individual award.
