Barcelona Wonderkid Lamine Yamal Breaks Kylian Mbappe’s Champions League Record

Barcelona wonderkid Lamine Yamal has reached another historic milestone after becoming the highest-scoring teenager in UEFA Champions League history, further strengthening his reputation as one of the most exciting attacking talents in European football.

According to a report by Barca Universal on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, the 19-year-old winger achieved the landmark during Barcelona’s 3-0 victory over Aston Villa. His goal took his Champions League tally to 14, allowing him to move past Kylian Mbappé’s previous teenage record of 13 strikes in the competition.

The achievement represents another significant moment in Yamal’s rapid development and highlights his growing influence under Barcelona manager Hansi Flick. Despite his age, the Spanish international continues to produce performances that place him alongside some of the biggest names in European football.

Yamal opened the scoring against Aston Villa inside the first ten minutes after capitalising on a costly defensive mistake by the visitors. Villa were attempting to build an attack from the back when Joao Gomes surrendered possession, allowing the Barcelona forward to take advantage.

The teenager reacted quickly, recovered the ball and used his dribbling ability to get past goalkeeper Zion Suzuki before calmly sending his finish into the net. His early contribution gave Barcelona an important advantage and provided another example of his ability to punish opposition mistakes.

More importantly, the strike carried historical significance. By reaching 14 Champions League goals, Yamal moved beyond Mbappé’s previous record for a player before turning 20, establishing a new benchmark for teenage scorers in the competition.

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland is among the other prominent names on the list, having scored 10 Champions League goals as a teenager. Former Barcelona forward Patrick Kluivert follows with seven, while Jude Bellingham, Raúl González and Karim Benzema each managed six before reaching their twentieth birthdays.

Yamal’s position above such established footballers underlines the scale of his achievement. The record is particularly impressive considering that he is still developing and gaining experience at the highest level of European competition.

His influence has not been limited to the latest milestone. The winger has enjoyed an impressive Champions League campaign, registering three goals and four assists. His contribution against Aston Villa added to an already productive run and demonstrated his continued importance to Barcelona's attacking plans.

Across all competitions this season, Yamal has recorded 13 goals and 11 assists, giving him 24 direct goal contributions. His ability to combine goalscoring with creativity has made him a central figure in Flick’s forward line.

The teenager is also showing signs of building on the 24 goals he scored during the previous campaign. His current performances suggest that he remains capable of producing another influential season for the Catalan club.

Surpassing the teenage records associated with Mbappé, Haaland, Benzema and Bellingham further reinforces Yamal’s growing status. While he still has considerable time to develop, his latest achievement confirms that he is already making a lasting impression on the Champions League.

Barcelona will hope he maintains this level of performance as the season progresses, with his goals and creativity expected to remain important in their pursuit of success in Europe and domestic competitions.
